Angry youths continued on Saturday their protests against Internal Security Forces Intelligence Bureau head Brigadier General Wissam al-Hasan's assassination on Friday by blocking roads in various regions throughout the country.

The youths had protested the murder on Friday by also blocking roads with burning tires and other barriers.

They continued their actions on Saturday morning with roads being blocked in Beirut's Corniche al-Mazraa district.

They also blocked roads near the Sports City.

In Tripoli, gunshots were heard at the Nahr Abu Ali roundabout as the Beddawi-al-Aabdeh road in the North was blocked, said Voice of Lebanon radio on Saturday.

Clashes also broke out Friday night between rival groups in Tripoli's Abi Samra neighborhood, reported the National News Agency.

Sheikh Abdul Razzaq al-Asmar was killed in the unrest and the army has since intervened to restore calm, it added.

In the South, the northern entrance to the city of Sidon was blocked with burning tires, added LBCI television.

Media sources told al-Arabiya television that roads were also blocked throughout the central Bekaa and Rashaya district in eastern Lebanon

Prime Minister Najib Miqati had announced on Friday that Saturday will be a national day of mourning over Hasan's death.

Hasan was killed on Friday in a car bomb in the Ashrafiyeh district in Beirut.

Conflicting reports emerged over the number of dead in the blast with some sides putting the figure at three and others at eight.

At least a hundred people were wounded in the explosion.

Hasan was close to former Prime Minister Saad Hariri and hostile to the regime in Syria. He had been tipped to take over as ISF head at the end of this year.

The ISF played a central role in the arrest in August of former Minister Michel Samaha, who has close links to Damascus and was charged with planning attacks in Lebanon and transporting explosives in collaboration with Syrian security chief Maj. Gen. Ali Mamlouk.

Hasan also played a central role in the investigation in Rafik Hariri's murder in February 2005, as well as uncovering Israeli espionage networks and terrorist cells in Lebanon.

This has nothing to do with Shia or Sunni, its to do with Israel guys wake up and stop taking the bait..

Missing samiam 20 October 2012, 22:22

the only way it has to do with the israelis is the justification for HA's weapons.

Thumb lebanon_first 20 October 2012, 11:59

These road closing thugs were watching bodies being removed from ashrafieh without lifting a finger. Like if they were watching a movie. maybe even enjoying the scene. But if one Sunni leader dies (Albeit someone worthy of high respect), they go on a spree closing roads and creating mess everywhere. They dont care about all those innocent dying because they are not from their sect. They are not lebanese first. They are sunni first. shame on them.

Missing peace 20 October 2012, 12:06

M. Jumblat veux s'en prendre avec les mots a la tete du monstre qui est a damas et ne veut pas accuser a la main qui nous poignarde dans le dos au coeur du Liban. ce n'est pas tres efficace.

Default-user-icon Michel (Guest) 20 October 2012, 12:50

really FT? What an idiotic thing to say..how dare u speak for any M14 and say that we view Geagea as Jesus..but Aoun lovers dont view Aoun as Jesus? That is a hypocrite speaking! If you want to be fair there are people on both sides that view their leaders as great (and swear that their loyalty wont waver). Also, I have personally heard from M8 friends that they will vote for Aoun no matter what...because they ultimately love him and will not deter from that love. So your comment is just BS!

Hate all over. you are not humans all of you. simply middle ages war lords and evil. You have your Lebanon and i have my Lebanon, now i understand Jobran. My Lebanon of 2012 of development, of civilization, of tourism, of technology of future for its youth, of equality, of humanity, of respect to human values. Your Lebanon is of war and war lords and evilness. You kill without mercy, you hate each other over the name of GOD. the God of your books is love not of hate. The blood didnt dry of humans, our brothers that speak our same language and share our hopes and sadness, their blood is shed and their homes are destroyed and you still fight with the same comments daily. Syria/Iran VS Saudi/Qatar etc... you make me sick all of you people that comment here. Full of hate and the simple reality is they don't care about you the war lords, you are all targets like sheep's of their political games.

listen FT, seriously man...who do you think wants Hassan dead...i mean plz don't be such an ignorant follower... we Christians are better than that.. Sunnis follow Hariri because he made them prosper so they have the right to do so...Shiites follow HA because his Militia took care of the South while the Lebanese Army couldnt so they have the right to do so... What has Aoun ever done for you to deserve such loyalty....plus look at the people who side with M14 and the people who side with M8.. at the end of it all man, ask yourself what you want for your children, and not what this guy or that guy did in the past... What do you want for your children FT?

Default-user-icon karim_m1 (Guest) 20 October 2012, 15:09

Shiites are very pissed "we should have trademarked tire burning" they could get something like a fifty of seventy cents every time someone burned a tire and put it in the middle of a road, I mean think of all the ka3ek they could buy!

Missing youssefhaddad 20 October 2012, 16:01

The anger is understandable and shared by all patriotic lebanese.
The problem is in this habit of expressing anger by burning tires which emits highly toxic and harmful gazes.
We do not punish the Syrian Regime by destroying our health and damaging our neighborhoods.

Unfortunately, if now isn't the time for the Lebanese Army and Security Forces to launch an all out attack on all people and organisations that are trying (and very often succeeding) in undermining the Lebanese State, then it never shall be, and the country will deteriorate into a situation which will make the Civil War look like a childrens game.

Default-user-icon Mike (Guest) 20 October 2012, 17:26

Don't make a mess of Lebanon like the Hizbcocaine guys always do. The best way to fight this is to go to Syria and kill Hezz there. They want a fight in Lebanon over the Hassan killing to relieve Bashar. Fight the Hezz and Bashar there. You can kill hezz and help bring down ASSad.
