March 14 Protesters Re-Block Grand Serail Road after Security Forces Attempt to Reopen it

The security forces reopened on Friday the road facing the Grand Serail in downtown Beirut after it was blocked by a March 14-led opposition sit-in, reported the daily An Nahar on Saturday.

It added however that the youth protesters soon re-blocked the road, renewing their demand for the government's resignation.

The protesters then held a press conference at the sit-in, condemning the Israeli assault against the Gaza Strip.

They then asserted their right to maintain the sit-in, saying: “Our presence at this camp is a civilized and democratic message.”

“It does not pose a threat to the Grand Serail,” they added,

“We are making our demands in a democratic manner and our closure of the roads has not harmed the interests of the people as other protesters before us had,” they said in an indirect reference to a March 8 camp sit-in that was held in the area and which started in December 2006 and ended in May 2008.

It was held to demand the resignation of the government of then Prime Minister Fouad Saniora.

The March 14 youths continued: “Reopening the road poses a danger to those who want to fuel the fire. Our decision to keep the road blocked is a message to the international community of the frustration felt by the majority of the Lebanese people.”

The youths staged the protest in light of the assassination of Internal Security Forces Intelligence Bureau head Brigadier General Wissam al-Hasan.

He was killed in a massive car bomb in Beirut's Ashrafiyeh district on October 19.

The opposition accused Syria of being behind the crime and blamed the government, which is comprised of mainly pro-Syria allies, of covering up for the criminals.

The youths said that the open-ended sit-in will continue until the government resigns.

"it's time it all collapses so we can start Fresh."

If it "all" collapses it won't be fresh. It will be the smell of gunpowder and burnt flesh.

Civil war taught them nothing. History keeps repeating itself. This is why the west classify arabs, as animals.

Get those brats off the streets. If they block any road, then they should be prosecuted to the furthest extent of the law and thrown in jail if they harm people's interests. Hizbullah are criminals, killing and terrorizing the Lebanese. Actions of terrorists should not be used as a comparison. Even if Hizbullah blocked roads and occupied Beirut on May 7th, people should fight the wrong with the right.

FT unfortunately this is what you and your M8 friends are encouraging people to do! if one political party can have weapons as they want then all can! it is the M8 logic...

why one party and not the others? if you do not want this to happen then you should ban all parties from being at the head of a militia!

as FPM boast itself to claim for justice then that is justice lol!

So flamethrower - let me understand, no one is allowed to fire an incompetent employee if he supports Hezbollah?

Missing peace 17 November 2012, 20:50

lol... totally stupid remark from a FPmer...
you accept a political party to be armed then you shouldn t deny others to do so... it your logic your friends have set up...
liberating the south: it is liberated...shebaa relies in the hands of syrians who never gave the official documents to the UN...
resisting israel? what is a national army for?
but we know how much you praise the state to be strong by allying with a party that sole purpose is to weaken it...

so the logic you and your friends have set up is that: a party can be armed so can the others... all the excuses you may find are void to defend your iranian friends....
or just pressure hezbis to hand there arms to the army and integrate it and only obey the state! not a politician...then you may whine like a virgin if others get armed too, till there you d better shut up.

LOL... "the logic that hezbollah should remain armed was not the work of today. it started with hariri in 1990-91 when he took charge."
am i suppose to care about that? hariri did what he wanted to do and even if he suppported hezbis i don t : (you know i don t follow blindly someone as you do ) but i know as you assume i am prohariri as i am against M8 which is typical from binary and weak M8 minds to assume so, thus you believe that i think like he did! LOL

and shebaa is under Un242 as you syrian friends never handed the official documents to UN, so international laws consider it still syrian. you d better ask your syrian friends to do the necessary the key to liberating shebaa lies in damascus not with hezbis!

final thing: live in the present not in the past, as hezbis now have no reason to still hold weapons other than to suit your iranian agenda... ok little "patriot" who supports a party that pledged allegiance to the iranian revolution and never to the lebanese flag....

and FT you may insult attack degrade M14 as much as you want as i do noyt feel attached to them. so if you believe that by insulting M14 you are insulting me, LOL, you are so wrong.

the contrary is not true though as you are soooo attached to M8 and all they say or do is like the words of the bible! typical of weak minds and of sheep with no brains... you let them think for yourself but totally unable to think by yourself. never able to criticize there wrongs, but if you noticed i criticized several times M14..

M8 follower, what is there to add?
