Berri: Any Ministerial Portfolio Will Be Worthless if Regional Instability Reaches Lebanon

Speaker Nabih Berri expressed his great disgust with Lebanese officials’ preoccupation with the “futile” debate over the Interior Ministry portfolio, while completely ignoring the developments in the region.

He told As Safir newspaper in remarks published on Tuesday: “Any portfolio will be worthless if the regional instability hit Lebanon.”

“There is no Arab cover over Lebanon at the moment because each country is preoccupied with its own concerns and therefore we should tackle our own problems by ourselves,” he stressed.

“Priority should be placed in forming a government that can handle the challenges of the upcoming phase,” the Speaker continued.

Berri added: “The continuation of the crisis is taking on the shape of an unintentional conspiracy as the new majority is not adopting such an approach.”

“Lebanon will be vulnerable to sectarian strife if the conspiracy against Syria succeeds,” he warned.

“The Christians in Lebanon and Syria are directly concerned with ensuring stability,” he said.

Mr. Berri,
With due respect, what is this nonsense.
Why should we wait for all the countries in the region for us to have a government?
Why should we ask the opinion of Syria, Saudi Arabia or the US?
This is our government.
Unless you think that we are immature and unable to form our own government?
If this is the case, then please go home with all the politicians on think the same as you...
