Prime Minister Najib Miqati concluded on Thursday his visit to Italy by holding talks with Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi, who hailed the Lebanese government for its policy of disassociation from regional crises.
He said after the meeting: “The Italian government believes it is necessary for Lebanon to continue on disassociating itself from the Syrian conflict.”
“Lebanon must maintain its stability, security, and internal balance,” he remarked.
For his part, Miqati praised Italy's support for Lebanon at all international meetings and its ongoing support for the stability in southern Lebanon through its participation in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon.
“We thank the Italian unit for its efforts to achieve security and stability, especially through its humanitarian and development aid to the residents of the South,” added the premier.
He also highlighted the support Italy provided to Lebanon and the “sacrifices it presented to our nation.”
The meeting between the premier and Italian foreign minister also addressed economic, political, diplomatic, and cultural cooperation.
Miqati had kicked off his visit to Italy on Wednesday where he held talks with his counterpart Mario Monti, who expressed his country's support for President Michel Suleiman's efforts in trying to reconcile the government and the opposition alliance in Lebanon.
He also voiced Italy's support for the government's policy of disassociation from the Syrian crisis.

Some things never change, open a paper of the 60s, then jump to the 70s, then to the eighties, 90s, till now, some things have not changed a bit. The world is still coming to us, to tell us Lebanese the same thing, "keep the peace, keep the peace, keep the peace". This time around it has surfaced that the money to make a war in Lebanon is simply not made available and that's quite a comforting thing to have at the back of the head, but it seems evident enough that we Lebanese still itch to create strife, at a time when we are so damn broke. It seems that we still don't understand that now more than ever peace is more important than ever, it is the one single commodity that will avert us famine. Many of you may still feel that this will not affect you, but rest assured, more and more of our neighbors are sleeping hungry. So a hungry man is an angry man. Keep the damn peace ya Lubneniyeh.
