Miqati Meets Berri, Says Country's Security 'Red Line'

Prime Minister Najib Miqati stressed on Saturday that the Lebanese authorities will not tolerate any security chaos across the country.

“We consider that every matter should be resolved calmly and slowly but it seems that some sides want to create sedition in Lebanon,” Miqati told reporters after holding talks with Speaker Nabih Berri in Ain el-Tineh.

He hailed a meeting held by the Higher Defense Council under President Michel Suleiman at Baabda palace earlier in the week.

The Council discussed the Israeli violations and the kidnap-for-ransom phenomenon that has lately spread in the country, calling for ending “behaviors” that ignite strife.

The premier said that security is a “red line,” pointing out that the Lebanese army and the security forces will respond to any breach.

Asked about the new electoral law, Miqati said that there are new developments, without revealing more details.

The joint parliamentary committees have approved the so-called Orthodox Gathering proposal, which considers Lebanon a single district and allows each sect to vote for its own lawmakers under a proportional representation system.

However, Suleiman and Miqati have rejected it along with the opposition al-Mustaqbal bloc, the centrist National Struggle Front and the March 14 opposition's independent Christian MPs.

good
1-arrest the kidnappers and hang them in martyr's square. Show us some criminal meat hanged.
2- Forbid the so call sheikhs to carry weapons.
3- take all the light weapons of private parties in lebanon including HA. keep the long distance missiles with HA.
4- Put in jail all those cheikhs that are brainwashing our youth in mosqs.
5- Speed up trial of islamists. Let the judges take their responsability and rule instead of waiting for the next judge to take over.
6- Dont pay the February salaries of the nonworking professors. What kind of example is this mob giving our children?

The beginning was right... then you started messing up at point 3.

all weapons should be either destroyed or given to the army.

you can't jail brainwashing Sheikhs if they didn't break the law. it'll make of them martyrs.

Finally, anyone has the right to protest, it's called democracy but they shouldn't get paid by the state, that's for sure.

The mob is occupying the highest positions in the current government.... what kind of example for our citizens is this?

There can be no state without rule of law, as long as there is an Iranian Millita choking Lebanon, this country is doomed.

Juts out of curiosity - what is your reasoning for why should the long range missiles stay with HA??

Thumb lebanon_first 02 March 2013, 22:59

Banana. Hezbollah need their toy. one day they will wisen up, realize israel is into economic growth, gas exploration, hedge funds, internet startups, and not into mosquito Hezbollah. That day, Hezbollah will wisen up and give up all their weapons. Meanwhile,if it makes them feel better, keep with Hezbollah the big toys and the teleguided planes which are not a risk for lebanon, and remove the hand weapons.

Sorry for being cynical, but it makes me laugh when our politicians say: "this is a red light!" as if they were actually capable of doing something about it! Or worse, as if all other issues they fail to fix are not so important for them. Good governance means you do all your strategic planning in advance so that you don't have to reach the red line. When you actually see a red line coming it's already too late to do something about it!

Which security ya mikati? stop spreading stupidity, the country is lawless, salafists wahhabis, iranian worshippers, and more than before sectarian maronites, and scared druzes. The country is divided into thousand of pieces, it is worse than during the civil war. Forget it , u did nothing but achieve ur dream of beeing prime minister and holding onto" ur position" because at the end of the day, you have no influence whatsoever. This is the problem in lebanon, power hungry politicians will do anything to stay in power and they know they are worthless and all is talk. Dont get me wrong, same goes with march 14th when they were here. what a big garbage this country is.
