Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat called on Monday for respecting the cabinet's policy of disassociation towards Syria's war, warning against the “trap the neighboring country's regime is planning for Lebanon”.

"Political and security dangers resulting from the weak execution of the policy of disassociation are threatening Lebanon's stability,” Jumblat stated in his weekly editorial to the PSP-affiliated al-Anbaa website. “We must avoid dragging Lebanon into Syria's turmoil”.

The Druze leader expressed that “although security-related incidents appear to be personal, they are however, indicators of tension resulting from the involvement in Syria's events”.

"Getting involved in Syria's internal clashes will encourage strife in Lebanon”.

He elaborated: "(President Bashsar Assad's) regime wants to deviate attention from the massacres its committing in Syria by transferring the conflict into Lebanon”.

Lebanon has publicly committed itself to staying neutral in the violence engulfing Syria, but the conflict has already exacerbated tensions in the country.

Jumblat criticized Iran for “insisting on changing the role of the resistance from defending Lebanon and fighting Israel to dragging it into Syria's internal war”.

On Monday, al-Joumhouria daily reported quoting the joint military command of the Free Syrian army that Hizbullah had recently buried in Lebanon 38 of its fighters who were killed on Syrian territory.

Hizbullah has in recent months allegedly buried a number of fighters killed in Syria, without publicly disclosing how the men were killed, or where.

Sources close to the party have said only that the men were killed "while carrying out their jihadist duty".

Commenting on the second anniversary of Syria' uprising, the PSP leader said expressed that “except for few nations that have called for arming the opposition's fighters, the international community has not yet taken a strong stand to rescue the Syria people”.
