An Israeli official landed in Cairo on Sunday for Egypt-mediated truce talks with Hamas to end the Gaza conflict, Egyptian security officials said.

Tibetan Mother-of-Two Self-Immolates in China

A Tibetan mother-of-two has died after setting herself on fire, rights groups said, the latest in a wave of such protests against Chinese rule.

Chagmo Kyi, who worked as a taxi driver and farmer, set herself on fire in Tongren county in China's northwest Qinghai province on Saturday, the U.S.-based International Campaign for Tibet said in a release.

7 Dead, 29 Hurt in Kenya Bus Attack

Seven people were killed and many more wounded when an apparent explosive device was hurled at a bus in a predominantly Somali area of the Kenyan capital Nairobi on Sunday, police and the Red Cross said.

Nairobi police chief Moses Nyakwama said the blast occurred on a bus in the district of Eastleigh, where mainly Somalis or Kenyans of Somali origin live and which has been the target of other attacks in recent weeks.

Help Plea by Family of Journalist Missing in Syria

The family of a Palestinian-Jordanian journalist missing in Syria for more than three months has appealed for help in securing his release, Beirut-based media rights watchdog SKeyes said on Sunday.

"Nasser al-Kadumi, brother of (U.S. broadcaster) Al-Hurra correspondent Bashar Fahmi al-Kadumi... called for the assistance of everyone able to help ensure his release," a statement said.

Lieberman Says No Truce without End to All Gaza Fire

Israel's Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said on Sunday that Israel would not negotiate a truce with Gaza Strip's Hamas rulers as long as rocket fire continues from the Palestinian enclave.

"The first and absolute condition for a truce is stopping all fire from Gaza," he said before meeting French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius, adding that all militant factions in Gaza would have to commit to cease rocket fire.

Obama Hopes for No 'Ramping Up' of Gaza Crisis

U.S. President Barack Obama Sunday said it was "preferable" for the Gaza crisis to be ended without a "ramping up" of Israeli military action, as fears mounted of a new invasion of the Hamas-run territory.

"Israel has every right to expect that it does not have missiles fired into its territory," Obama said, adding, "if that can be accomplished without a ramping up of military activity in Gaza, that is preferable".

Mali PM Says 'Dialogue Inevitable' with Two Rebel Groups

Malian Prime Minister Cheick Modibo Diarra said Sunday that the government would eventually hold talks with two northern rebel groups, the Islamist Ansar Dine and the Tuareg MNLA, because they are both homegrown movements.

"Dialogue is inevitable. People who make up the Azawad National Liberation Movement (MNLA) or Ansar Dine are our compatriots," Diarra said after talks with the chief west African regional mediator, Burkina Faso's President Blaise Compaore.

Russian TV Office Damaged in Israeli Strike on Gaza

The Gaza-based offices of a Kremlin-funded international Russian TV broadcaster were severely damaged Sunday in an Israeli raid on two buildings housing Palestinian and other media outlets, the station said.

The Israeli army confirmed attacking the Shurouq center in Gaza City in an attempt to interrupt what it said was Hamas "operational communications" from the building.

Roadside Bomb Attacks Kill Five in Tribal Pakistan

Roadside bombs killed a total of five people and wounded 10 Sunday in two separate blasts in Pakistan's lawless tribal zone near the Afghan border, officials said.

One of the improvised explosive devices was planted along the route of an army convoy in the Mir Ali area 35 kilometers (21 miles) east of Miranshah, the main town in the North Waziristan district, they said.

Peres Welcomes Egypt's Efforts for Gaza Truce

Israeli President Shimon Peres said in an interview on Sunday he welcomed efforts by his Egyptian counterpart to secure a ceasefire in the Gaza conflict but accused Hamas of rejecting the proposals.
