State Prosecutor Bodyguard Held over Suspected Bribery

The military prosecution on Friday ordered the detention of one of the bodyguards of State Prosecutor Samir Hammoud over suspicions that he had received bribes in return for favors.

The National News Agency said the guard is a member of the State Security agency.

“The member was arrested after the Internal Security Forces Intelligence Branch provided Judge Hammoud with intel it has about this member, after which he granted it permission to interrogate him,” NNA said.

“After interrogation, Judge Hammoud told the Intelligence Branch interrogators to contact the military prosecution, which ordered him detained,” the agency added.

Last month, a bodyguard of Mount Lebanon Prosecutor Judge Ghada Aoun was also detained on charges of involvement in bribery-related offenses.

Several ISF officers and policemen and State Security agents have been interrogated and detained in recent weeks as part of a crackdown on bribery and abuse of power offenses.

"One of State Prosecutor Samir Hammoud's bodyguards has been detained on suspicion of receiving bribes in return for favors."

The bodyguard is not the prosecutor and cannot do favors unless the prosecutor himself was receiving the bribes and doing the 'favors'. This is the justice system in Lebanon!

The dishonoranle judge samir hammoud is rotten inside out. The entire class of military judges and prosecutors are corrupt yet they remain in power because they take orders from political parties and sometimes Bashar al Assad.

As if the bodyguard can do anything and has any power to do anything, he simply takes the envelope and passes it to the person who can do something, and everybody know who that is. The body guard is the escape goat and is hung out to dry. Fighting corruption starts at the top not the bottom
