Suleiman: Any Attack against our Oil Wealth Will Lead to War

إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربية W460

President Michel Suleiman noted on Friday that Lebanon is witnessing a period of stability despite the unrest in the region, hoping that any action regarding oil exploration in the eastern Mediterranean would not take place against the country’s interests.

He said: “Any violation of our petroleum rights will lead to war.”

He made his statements at the end of his trip to the Czech Republic where he met with Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg.

Suleiman continued: “We never assaulted Israel, but it always attacks us, the last of which was its violations against our exclusive economic zone.”

Addressing regional developments, the president noted: “Democracy is not being applied fairly when it comes to the Palestinian cause.”

He therefore warned of the emergence of a new wave of Arab extremism to confront Israeli extremism, hoping that the Arab League would “resume its normal role” to tackle such issues “after it had steered away from its main goals.”

“The Palestinian cause is a constant source of regional and global tension,” added Suleiman.

A dispute emerged between Lebanon and Israel regarding the demarcation of maritime borders in light of the discovery of offshore oil and gas along each country’s coasts.

just shut up and you wake up, israel/bashar/HA/iran are all in the same bed when it comes to their common enemy: the suni arabs, the ones you conveniently called "salafis", the mask has fallen ya nazi. You will have to ally urself with israel in the future if you keep up your stupid sectarian agenda simply because you are 10 percent in the great region, get smart and learn that we have to live together and that you can not win a sectarian war.

that's the way it always aught to be done. the decision to go to war should be made by the state, not by some Iranian turbaned dude ordering his local underground underling .

OK guys no war with Israel. But here are the demands, you keep the palestinians, you disarm Hizballah, and you are not allowed to be allied or affiliated with any regime I don't like. Then you can be free and live in peace.

Another Syrian Popet idiot, I guess he is the president of Lebanon not of Palestine, so he needs to talk about the Lebanese issues like electricity and stop flip flopping like many Lebanese corrupted politicians of war crimes era. This is the worst Lebanese president ever Lebanon have seen especially when it comes to English speaking with foreign figures.

Let's get rid of the enemy within before declaring war on others

Then let our glorious army intercept the ultra-modern highly-sophisticated weapons that are being sent to arm Al Qaida - Syria Branch and use it to defend the nation against Al Qaida - Israel Branch.

You can't scare a street girl with the thing men carry.
If this president cares about Lebanon and its people and feels that there is a dispute between the 2 countries, why don't you call for an intermediate or direct talks? whom are you threatening ? Didn't Lebanon paid enough for opening the borders to terrorist gangs like PLO and Hezballa? what could have been so bad is the Lebanese army was keeping border quiet without any hostilities ?
This is the only time I'm ready to loose around the negotiation table.

Missing the point here people. Prior to directing our angst towards the external let's take a good long look at the whole of the within. Do you genuinely believe that the current government will not rape and pillage the monies made from the energy resources? This is a genuine opportunity to significantly decrease our national debt, and in doing so, putting more kids in better schools and more food on the plates of more of the poor. Ideally, it sounds like a fantastic opportunity. In reality, I don't trust Bassil, Aoun or Hezbollah. We need to fix our internal problems before we start dealing with the external. It is due to our internal strife and division that the external plays such a significant role. Wake up countrymen.

Why dont your Mr.resident worry about fraud and theft of public funds by members of the government and parliament. The people of Lebanon need to be saved by its 200 dictators in office.

Missing realist 03 March 2012, 02:45

and lets not forget that your new enemy Qatar helped build quite a bit of your south/da7iye lol. Quit the hypocrisy ya mowaten, if you support the murder of the Syrians (you call salafis) you have no cause, no religion, no humanity. And dont dare say you belong to hussein, the man who stood against opression.

bravo Mr. President, I admire how you defend the nation against Israel. But honestly, why can't you have the same attitude to Syria too. They are our enemy just as well! The time Lebanon is united will be when we have a leader who can reject all foreign influence in our country.. that includes the U.S and Iran. For a united Lebanon!

Thumb james 03 March 2012, 14:05

In the words of Bachir Gemayel, the Head of the Lebanese State should not belong to the Vatican nor Syria, to the U.S nor Israel. The Head of the Lebanese State should belong only to Lebanon. I agree that President Suleiman is far too Pro-Syrian than the President should be.

Lead to war? Is it the Lebanese army who is going to fight Israel with
out dated M16s and obsolete tanks and hummers? Is the president the new
spokesman for the hezb?
