Lebanon has informed Iran that it will not take part in an upcoming meeting on the Syrian conflict that Tehran is hosting, a Lebanese diplomatic official said on Tuesday.

"The Lebanese foreign ministry has informed the Iranian authorities that Lebanon will not attend Thursday's meeting in Tehran, because it has never participated in any international meetings on Syria, in line with its policy of self-disassociation," the official told Agence France Presse on condition of anonymity.

Iran called for a ministerial meeting among states that have taken a "realistic and principled stand" on the Syrian crisis, Tehran said on Monday, adding representatives from 10 countries were expected to attend.

Iran is Syrian President Bashar Assad's main regional ally.

Lebanon has not attended any meetings of the so-called Friends of Syria group that brings together representatives from mainly Arab and Western states that support the opposition.

Lebanon won't attend because it is represented there by Iran

Oh by the way FlameThrower, this is not how it's supposed to be done. Syria has harmed Lebanon and Lebanese interests more than any other country, thanks to it hundreds in Lebanon have been killed, arrested, kidnapped, and millions have been lost in investment and rebuilding effort, all gone to syria. If anything a country like Lebanon should take advantage of the fact that there is a revolution and it should try to rise against this oppressor. Don't tell me Syria helped maintain stability and support for Lebanon, that's total BS and we all know it.

For once Flamethrower is right about something. Don't you guys realize just how fragile lebanon is right now? Don't you realize that the policy of self-dissociation is the only thing preventing the country from entering syria's civil war? No one in lebanon wants a civil war. Aside from hating Israel, it's the only thing that all Lebanese politicians can agree on.
