Clashes Break Out on Lebanon-Syria Border

Cross-border clashes broke out late Wednesday on the restive Lebanese-Syrian frontier, a Lebanese security official told Agence France Presse, adding that there were no casualties.

"The Syrian army fired shells into Lebanon after unidentified armed men opened fire across the border near the village of Aboudiyeh" in northern Lebanon, the official said.

"One of the shells landed in the Nahr Kbir area," the official said on condition of anonymity. "Residents of the outskirts of Aboudiyeh fled their homes for the relative safety of the village center."

Armed men in Lebanon used machinegun fire to shoot into Syrian territory, while the Syrian army responded with rounds fired from tanks and machineguns, the security official said.

"The Lebanese army has intensified its patrols, and though the firing has stopped, the situation remains tense," the official added.

Ever since the outbreak of the anti-regime revolt in Syria 19 months ago, multiple exchanges of fire have taken place across the border.

The Syrian army has also frequently fired shells across the border into Lebanon, officials have said.

Lebanon has made two official complaints against the Syrian authorities over territorial violations, while the regime of President Bashar Assad accuses Lebanon of allowing arms and fighters to enter into Syria illegally.

The international community and analysts have expressed fears that the conflict in Syria may spill over into Lebanon.

lol! when you fight fighter jets helicopters a whole army with light weapons of course it ll last? are you both stupid or do it on purpose?
you should ask the question otherwise: why is it lasting? because the people stopped bending down to this dictatorship and fight with what they have...

like i said before FT. it took bashar and his father and family and entourage decades building a system specifically resilient to this kind of scenario..(which in itself tells you a lot about the regime and that they always knew this day will come)

2 years, 3 years or even 5 years of fighting with the resources the FSA now has, is nothing.. but its ok, one day you will learn to see farther than your nose..one day maybe you will remember that this regime you seem so eager to defend is the one who brutally pillaged your country for 15 years, killed your country men, tortured them, executed army officers in the most atrocious way..

and now, just out of spite or just blind following, you forgive them, and still hold a grudge against the rest of the lebanese..and for what? what has changed?
