Report: Hizbullah Fighter Killed in Syria Buried in Lebanon

The body of a Hizbullah member killed in fighting in Syria was buried in southern Lebanon early on Sunday, several residents of the man's village told Agence France Presse.

"The funeral of Hassan Nimr Shartouni, 25, was this morning in Mays al-Jabal after the arrival of his body from Syria where he was killed in fighting yesterday (Saturday)," one resident told AFP.

Two other residents, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the details of Shartouni's burial.

Hizbullah has in recent months buried a number of fighters killed in Syria, without publicly disclosing how the men were killed, or where.

Sources close to the movement have said only that the men were killed "while carrying out their jihadist duty."

The group has acknowledged that its members living in Syrian villages on the border with Lebanon have taken part in battles against "armed groups" in self-defense.

But it refuses to discuss allegations by Syrian rebels that it has sent fighters from Lebanon to bolster the forces of its ally, President Bashar Assad.

The issue has inflamed tensions in Lebanon, where the domestic opposition which backs the Syrian uprising has accused Hizbullah of endangering the country by intervening in the conflict.

The group has in turn accused the opposition of backing the Syrian uprising and turning a blind eye to the flow of weapons and Syrian rebels across the Lebanese border.

The Syrian conflict, which began with peaceful protests against the Assad regime, is now in its third year.

The United Nations says that at least 70,000 people have been killed, and more than one million Syrians have been forced to seek refuge abroad. Millions more have been internally displaced.

On Saturday, at least 126 people were killed in fighting across the country, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights watchdog -- 54 rebels, 28 regime forces and 44 civilians.

Mustaqbal does not have a militia to send to fight in Syria. The Hizb does.

Thumb jcamerican 17 March 2013, 12:19

You are the least biased commentator here. Only an outsider can sense it. But you are absolutely right, no one is forcing anyone to fight, and no one will miss them but their families.

I don't recall Mustahbal burying any fighters, jihadists, party members or anybody else fallen is Syria. But according to M8 medias reliable sources Okab Sakr keeps getting martyred over and over sometimes in Southern Syria, others is Northern Syria or Western Syria and other places in Turkey and Jordan.

Good riddance--my guess though is that for each one we hear about, there are many more that don't make their way to the news.

Missing biglebanese 17 March 2013, 12:30

Great news good to hear.,.

Thumb geha 17 March 2013, 12:44

I agree with the first comment of FT: anyone who sends fighters to Syria is not Lebanese, thus they are initially traitors. they do not deserve to be mourned.
it is as if nobody learned anything from the past!

Thumb cityboy 17 March 2013, 13:10

I would say that is a very subjective statement. Who are you guys to say that they are not lebanese. If the arab countries can send fighters to Syria, then I am proud of this Lebanese patriot that decided to go to Syria to help protect Lebanon and Syria.

Good, we will get rid of Kuffar Christians from Syria, and we will come for you Christians in Lebanon. Regards.

Excellent comment FT. Couldn't have put it better myself.

Read carefully his age (25), it is not his fault, and yes the government has failed the South or North long time ago and some were mislead by Iran/Saudis by inducing money/hospitals/schools, there are poor uneducated people across the board from all religions, we call them fanatics and those are unemployed kids of Lebanon. Our only chance to survive is to unify behind a strong Government insuring all money from outside is being audited and entering the proper destination=Army funds.

FT,

But you said they are sticking with there ally,

how can you say they are not lebanese if the syrians

helped the famlies of the south, maybe they are just returning the

favor, its not you help us when we are in trouble but we dont help

you when you are in trouble, huge difference between hezb helping and

the salalfi trash going there, and thats if this story is true,if he was

killed why didnt the FSA keep his body as proof, and how does the hezb

always get the body back....none the less i respect your opinion and

see that you always make valid points.

Mustaqbal are sending Lebanese fighters trained in Lebanon and arab countries. Hezbollah sending fighters trained in Lebanon and Iran. both are waging there sunnite/chiite war in Syria. The good thing to that is that it is not directly in the streets of Beirut. its rather in Syria. the bad side to it is that this shouldnt even happen...what a waste of youth and purpose in life...

Thumb shab 17 March 2013, 18:11

Keep them comming

Well, there are things that comments cannot change, like the fact that if Bashar wins and he will seeing as he is still in damascus and no sign of him ever losing power, most of you propably wont be here to comment anymore once he does..
and also, you can be anti-hezballah ad ma badkon, bas at the end hezballah will always be stepping on your necks till the end of time<3
Its either you know your place and show respect or else you get the boot and in worst case you piss off like the patriot Saad.
I am not baathist, but god gave me something you guys lack, called forsight, christians who support the rebels are bigger fools than the muslims who do so as well, since if and if the rebels win you can imagine a saudi like dictatorship in syria that will end minority presence for good. and sunnis will be happy until iran decides they have nothing to lose and nukes the country.
