Syrian Trucks Come under Fire in Tripoli, Driver Wounded

A driver was injured on Monday when several Syrian trucks came under fire in the northern city of Tripoli, the state-run National News Agency reported.

NNA said Zakaria al-Basha, one of the drivers, was wounded in the dawn shooting that took place while his truck was passing under the pedestrian bridge in Tripoli's al-Tabbaneh area.

Miqati to Kick Off Arab, European Tour over Burden of Syrian Refugees

Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Miqati is expected to kick off a tour to Arab and European countries to urge them to commit to their financial pledges to share the burden of the displaced Syrians, who have put a severe strain on Lebanon's economy.

Miqati, according to An Nahar newspaper published on Monday, will make Qatar his first stop of the tour, which will include Kuwait also.

Bkirki Denies al-Rahi Resignation Report

Bkirki spokesman Walid Ghayyad and the head of Lebanon's Catholic Information Center denied on Monday that Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi would resign in the coming weeks.

In remarks to the National News Agency, Ghayyad said: “The issue is out of the question.”

Report: Hizbullah Arrested Assailants of Bekaa Car Bomb

The assailants of a car bomb that the Lebanese army defused in the Bekaa Valley last Friday have been arrested by Hizbullah, An Nahar newspaper reported.

The army command has said in a terse communique that soldiers seized a black Buick rigged with around 350 kilograms of explosives.

Charbel Says Accomplices in Iranian Embassy Attack to be Identified

Caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel said on Monday that several security meetings will be held in the upcoming days to identify those who prepared the explosive-laden vehicle that exploded near the Iranian Embassy in Beirut in an attack that killed at least 23 people.

Charbel rejected in comments published in al-Joumhouria newspaper to reveal the side behind the twin bombing and whether al-Qaida or local factions are behind the attack.

Bomb Found in Taamir Ain el-Hilweh, Palestinian Suspects Arrested

A bomb was found Sunday evening in the Taamir Ain el-Hilweh area in Sidon and two Palestinians were arrested after planting the explosive device.

“The army intelligence captured the Palestinian brothers Alaa and Ahmed al-Saleh as they were planting a bomb targeted against members of al-Dirani family who belong to the (Hizbullah-affiliated) Resistance Brigades in Sidon,” state-run National News Agency reported.

Speaker Nabih Berri on Sunday hoped a landmark nuclear deal between Iran and world powers will pave the ground for a “settlement” in war-torn Syria, after he arrived in Tehran for an official visit.

Speaking to reporters at an airport in the Iranian capital, Berri thanked his Iranian counterpart Ali Larijani for inviting him to visit the Islamic republic, hoping his talks there will “strengthen relations between the two countries, especially that this visit comes amid a very delicate period.”

Charbel Appeals for All-Party Talks to Ward Off Dangers

Caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel said Sunday that rival Lebanese politicians should hold dialogue to ward off the dangers threatening Lebanon.

“The dangers that are facing Lebanon compel us to sit at the dialogue table to discuss ways to keep the country at a distance from them,” Charbel said at Charles de Gaulle airport north of Paris.
