Report: PSP, Hizbullah, AMAL Agree to Halt Spread of Kidnapping Incidents

The Progressive Socialist Party, Hizbullah and AMAL movement agreed to halt any attempt to spread the kidnapping of Syrian nationals to other areas in Lebanon, security sources told the pan-Arab daily al-Hayat on Thursday.

The three parties exerted efforts on Wednesday to block the road on moving the abduction incidents to other regions in the country, denying that Syrian nationals were being kidnapped in Mount Lebanon, in particular, in Shouf region where leader MP Walid Jumblat resides.

Families of 1983 Marines Bombing in Beirut Sue Bank in NY

Families of victims of a deadly 1983 bombing of U.S. Marines in Lebanon filed a lawsuit on Wednesday seeking to hold Standard Chartered Bank and its New York branch accountable.

They claim in the lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Manhattan that the bank conspired with Iran and its agents to hide Iran's assets from them. They're seeking to trace assets as they try to enforce a $2.6 billion judgment against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Suleiman Heads Security Meeting, Warns against 'Jeopardizing Security of Lebanese, Foreigners'

President Michel Suleiman on Wednesday presided over a meeting with all the chiefs of the Lebanese security agencies, after al-Meqdad clan abducted more than 20 Syrians and a Turkish national in retaliation for the kidnap of one of its members by Syrian rebels in Damascus.

Suleiman also held phone talks with Speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Najib Miqati “over the developments that took place today,” state-run National News Agency reported.

Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE Urge Their Citizens to Leave Lebanon Immediately

Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Awadh Asiri on Wednesday urged all Saudi citizens in Lebanon to leave the country “immediately,” after media reports said a Saudi man and his son were kidnapped by al-Meqdad clan in retaliation for the abduction of one of its members in Damascus by the Syrian opposition.

Later on Wednesday, the UAE and Qatar also urged their citizens to leave Lebanon immediately.

Four Lebanese Pilgrims Abducted in Syria Reportedly Killed in Aazaz Airstrike

ISF Source Denies Sayyed was Smuggling Arms with Samaha

A source in the general directorate of the Internal Security Forces denied that former General Security chief Maj. Gen. Jamil Sayyed accompanied ex-minister Michel Samaha to Syria to allegedly smuggle explosives to Lebanon.

In remarks to al-Akhbar daily published on Wednesday, the source said MTV station’s report “is not true and the interrogation of Samaha and his bodyguards did not reveal any such thing.”
