1 Killed as Arsal Gunmen Clash with Syrian Troops

إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربية W460

Clashes broke out Wednesday between Syrian troops and residents of the border town of Arsal in eastern Lebanon after a Lebanese man was killed and two wounded at dawn along the Lebanese-Syrian border.

Security sources said that rocket-propelled grenades and automatic weapons were fired during the clashes at Kherbet Daoud, an area on the outskirts of Arsal.

The fighting broke out after Syrian security forces intercepted smugglers crossing into Syria. However, there was no information as to what they were smuggling.

The Lebanese army later deployed near Arsal to restore calm.

Smuggling of arms has always existed in the country and in the north otherwise how are all these armed groups including Hizbullah are getting their weapons...now that the smuggling is against Syria's interest it became an issue...We either have a proper country where smuggling of arms is prohibited and stopped by the Lebanese state or we have we have what we have now...Mazraaa!!

Thumb lebneneh 06 June 2012, 15:13

Mowaten my friend this consent although nothing was official, does not reflect all (or the decisive majority) of the Lebanese people's will so there no justification in what you said. More importantly ,since I don't support M14 nor M8, we will never be able to build a country until we start following the rules of building a country... consolidation of arms under the state's control is one of the pillars of having a real country...whoever tells you otherwise is finding justifications for their own cause.

Thumb geha 06 June 2012, 16:02

Our mind is made up: we are definatly against weapons outside the state. is it clear now?

Missing helicopter 06 June 2012, 16:17

Mowaten ... the implicit consent by successive Lebanese Governments you refer to (except for the current one which is by Hezb for Hezb) was extracted by intimadation occupation of Downtown Beirut for years, and threatening civil peace. It wass blackmail my friend not consent. The same blackmail that resulted in Mr. Berri keeping his Job and Emile Lahoud staying in Baabda and the Qatar agreement, the subsequent toppling of that Government, and the creation of the current Government. It was the blackmail and not the consent.

Thumb Bandoul 06 June 2012, 16:24

@mowaten, no matter how many times you repeat a lie you heard on TV or the Radio, whether from a corrupted politician or a biased reporter, it never ever becomes the truth. The facts are simple and clear: the weapons in the hands of the Party of God are illegal and are not under the authority of the legitimate government. You have a duty to research and advocate the truth. Until you and your cronies produce a paragraph from the Constitution or the Taef Accord which clearly legitimizes these weapons, they were then, continue to be and will always be illegitimate no matter what you or you brainwashed cronies do about it.

The best thing that could happen now is a government that ask UN to guard the Lebanese/Syrian border.

Nothing goes out and nothing comes in. This would be a dream scenario for Lebanon.

Thumb geha 06 June 2012, 16:04

Ulpanius: definately this is the way to go. since our army is not doing its duty on the border.

Great idea, but an Impossible one. The Hezb will snipe them down one after the other until they pack and leave.

Slash, how have i polluted islam? Just because your a disgrace to christianity, it doesnt mean everyone else is a disgrace to their religion. Your the one who keeps threatning to murder people simply because we disagree with you. Your the one who use foul language. So check your self and dont accuse others of being what you are. What now, are you going to threaten to throw me out of a helicopter? You need mental care.

As I remember, there are plenty of weapons hidden in south lebanon. If I'm H.Nasrallah I would start immediately to guarding those hidden arsenals. As we know, Lebanon is the land of miracles and maybe over night those wapeans could grow foots and disappear in syria.

Missing peace 06 June 2012, 21:00

as usual mowaten and FT are trying to find excuses for syria...seems the lebanese killed by syria are not worth defending!
a foreign army fires on our country and they still defend them!
they claim they support the "resistance"...what resistance if a foreign army can do what they want on lebanese soil!

patriotism the M8 way....

Missing peace 07 June 2012, 00:31

Default-user-icon Skyfall (Guest) 07 June 2012, 10:14

@ Everybody, you argue about march14thh and march8th, why dont we all agree our borders with everybody must be protected and we must retaliate against syrians and israelis if attacked? What is happening on our borders with Syria is not just smuggling, but also " te7chir " with the lebanese in order to drag us into their civil war. Bachar El Assad has more supporters in Lebanon than in Syria right now. Lets not talk about Israelis as well. I mean please can you stop blaming each other for working with foreigners? and specially israelis? It is a fact whether you like it or not, whether you supported the party i will name now or not, they all worked with the Israelis : Kataeb, LF, Amal ( Wars of camps ), Druze ( Mountain war), Sunnites as well. Everybody worked then as well with syrians whether now or before. Sorry to say but all are double agents or were. The funny part is some blame others for working with israelis while they did that as well, and vice versa with the syrians

Default-user-icon Skyfall (Guest) 07 June 2012, 10:20

One thing for sure we must agree that our borders are beeing breached every day by israelis ( by air ) and syrians( by grounds). Sorry but we must not just condemn or shut up, we must do everything we can to stop them. There is no state if it cannot protect its citizens, this is what is happening in lebanon right now. people are losing patience and hope and are arming themselves and retaliating in self-defense. Whether there was smuggling or not on the syrian-Lebanese borders, it is up to THE LEBANESE ARMY to arrest its bad citizens and to do the necessary, not for the syrians to shoot them or arrest them....

Thumb thepatriot 07 June 2012, 15:15

Yes Skyfall. I, and many other Lebanese citizens consider that Hezbollah have no more legitimacy and no more need to hold their weapons anymore. They have regrouped beyond the Litani river and cannot be a threat or threaten Israel anymore. plus the UN peace keepers are deployed and I am sure that Israel have no territorial claims over us.
The Shebaa farms is not a problem with Israel as long as it has not been sorted out with Syria...and of course, Syria keeps this a grey area (despise the fact that all international maps have shown their belonging to Syria) in order to justify Heb's weapons.

Thumb thepatriot 07 June 2012, 15:16

We do not want anymore armed militias in this country, regardless af if it is LF, Hezb, Amal, Salafis, Future, Palestinians, you name it!
One state! One army!

Thumb Bandoul 08 June 2012, 10:59

@LiesThrower, have you apologized for advocating shooting M14 supporters in the head and dissolving us in acid? What? No? Not yet? Seriously dude? Can't you see what a worthless and unproductive citizen you are by spewing such hate and advocating such violence against your fellow citizens who disagree with you? Apologize dude, you'll feel better and by doing so, you demonstrate that you are possibly a human though I personally doubt it.
