Mashnouq to Gemayel: Yes It's True, Release of Detainees Was Pressured

Interior Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq revealed on Tuesday that political interference were behind the release of several detainees who were held over the past week on charges of shooting celebratory gunfire, a declaration highly praised by Kataeb Party chief Sami Gemayel.

Mashnouq declared during a TV interview a day earlier that “60 or 70 detainees out of 90 arrested on charges of shooting celebratory gunfire (during the Brevet official exam results) were released because they had a political coverup.”

Second Deadly Fire in Syrian Refugee Camp Kills 1

A massive fire has broken out in a camp for Syrian refugees in the Bekaa Valley in Bar Elias after midnight, killing one person and injuring many others, the National News Agency said on Tuesday.

Civil Defense firefighters extinguished the fire which broke out shortly after midnight burning down 22 tents out of 185 and killing one refugee and wounding 21, NNA said.

Army Raids Baalbek Neighborhoods in Search of Fugitives

The Lebanese army raided several neighborhoods in the eastern Bekaa town of Baalbek in search of fugitives and arrested five suspects, the National News Agency reported on Tuesday.

Several surveillance cameras, weapons and drugs were confiscated during the army's raid in al-Sharawneh neighborhood in Baalbek, NNA said.
